A new feature in Big Sur is that if obsolete third party extensions are detected, or extensions that are not optimized for Big Sur, then some or all third party drivers will be prevented from loading. Workaround: Big Sur has strict requirements for drivers to load. Issue: When installing SoftRAID in Big Sur, macOS never prompts the user to go to System Preferences and the “Allow” option is not available. Security Settings and Driver Loading Issues If the array connected is RAID 4/1+0 (10) or an APFS volume, SoftRAID for Windows will not be able to recognize the volume on those disks. Workaround: SoftRAID for Windows work with RAID 0/1/5 at this time. Issue: SoftRAID for Windows can’t see my SoftRAID volume created on Mac If you do not have access or are not sure what host your key was licensed on, please contact OWC SoftRAID support. Please log onto that host, make sure you are connected to a network and either uninstall SoftRAID or Deactivate your license. If you are encountering this error, likely your key is activated on another host. Workaround: Unless your license of SoftRAID was purchased with multiple seats, SoftRAID can only be installed on one concurrent host Mac or PC at a time. Issue: I am trying to activate SoftRAID, but I am receiving an error during activation (Error 6)

Workaround: When a new SoftRAID powered OWC device releases, your copy of SoftRAID might need an update to include the new hardware on the XT approved list. Issue: SoftRAID XT isn’t recognizing my OWC Device as an OWC device If you skip this step, your SoftRAID volume will be unable to mount. If you forget to do this, after startup, open System Preferences -> Security, unlock the pane and click “Allow” to enable the SoftRAID driver to load. macOS will display a dialog box, pointing the user to System Preferences/Security when the SoftRAID driver is installed.

Workaround: When you install the SoftRAID driver, the driver cannot load until OWC is allowed as an identified developer. Issue: Installing the driver requires going to System Preferences -> Security to “Allow” OWC as an identified developer. Select the “Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” checkbox to allow installation of software that uses legacy kernel extensions. Select “Reduced Security” and enable this: Third party drivers must be enabled for any drivers, not just SoftRAID. Workaround: Before the SoftRAID driver can load, please follow these instructions from Apple. Issue: Third Party Driver loading in M1 computers requires allowing third party drivers to load. Disk Utility will see the disk as unpartitioned and will be able to erase/format it. Select the disk tile and “Zero Disk.” Select “100 Sectors,” which is enough to erase the partition map. To reuse a disk with Disk Utility, launch SoftRAID. Workaround: Disk Utility is unable to work with disks that are in SoftRAID format. Issue: Disk Utility is unable to use a disk initialized by SoftRAID
